The students enjoyed sharing the menus they created. They were amazing!

Our field trip to Old Pueblo Grill was a huge success. Thank you to the following volunteers; Donvan’s Mom, Madison’s Mom, Kiersten’s Grandma and Casey’s Mom. We could not have done it without you. The students participated in four stations at Old Pueblo Grill. They colored a menu, tried on aprons and carried trays (every student received a hat), learned how to prepare the silverware and went on a kitchen tour.

Please send your child with 4 hard boiled eggs on Wednesday in a labeled container.

NO HOMEWORK THIS WEEK!
Upcoming Homework: Due Friday, April 29th Every student needs to make an insect. It may be any size, from a sheet of paper to poster size. Please use any material (Styrofoam, felt, construction paper, egg cartons, etc.). I will be hanging all the insects around the room.

week of 4-11-11

Last week the students tried Quadrantines (chocolate desert) and chocolate Quakes. Also, the students were able to experience how hard it would be to write with a quill. The class made an insect quilt that is hanging in our class. I also put a picture of it on my blog.
Last Friday, the students performed a Ladybug Lab. The students were scientists observing the ladybugs: what they looked like from above and underneath, how many dots, how they walked, what color their wings were, how they fly, etc. The students even had a chance to have a ladybug walk on them. I love to watch the children’s faces of amazement as they see the ladybugs fly with their transparent wings. The students thoroughly enjoyed the lab.
AIMs and standardized testing will be going on all next week. Please talk to your child with your about how our class MUST be quiet and how important it is for them to listen the first time. All students MUST bring water bottles, because I cannot let them out of class to get drinks.
FIELD TRIP – IMPORTANT INFORMATION
• Please have your child at school at 8:15. We will be leaving our classroom at 8:40. If your child is late, they will stay at school in the office.
• Chaperones please wear a blue shirt to match our class.
• All students MUST wear tennis shoes. Students may wear jeans, jean shorts or uniforms. Please NO skirts.
• Everyone attending the field trip needs to bring a sack, lunch including a drink. Please NO lunchboxes, coolers, etc.
• We have been talking all week about how field trips are a privilege. If they can’t listen in the classroom, how do I know they will be able to listen on a field trip with more distractions. Please speak with your student and remind them that field trips are a privilege. If your child received a yellow slip last week, they need to work VERY hard and prove to me that they can have good behavior on our field trip. I want all students to be able to attend the field trip. It is a great learning experience to share with their friends.

week of 4-4-11

Dear Parents,
Last Friday, Mrs. Marshall and I played a practical joke on the students as an April fool’s joke. The students went back in history and worked by lantern light. We told the students that the lights went out. They experienced how difficult it must have been to work by candle light. After I finished reading a book about April Fool’s Day, Mrs. Marshall turned on the lights. APRIL FOOL’S! The students were in shock. The students were trying to think of a good April Fool’s jokes they could play on their parents. I stressed to them that any April Fool’s joke must be safe.
Last week, the students made watermelons and enjoyed whales.
Thank you to Sierra’s Family for bringing in baby wipes and items for our Easter party. Thank you to all the families who have brought in box tops. There is another contest for the months of March and April.
