The students LOVED the field trip and learned a lot about farming.  The students planted a sunflower seed that will grow to be around 12 feet tall and were able to milk a plastic cow named Gertie.  They found out that worms are the hardest workers on the farm.  The class tried a broccoli flower and carrots (even purple ones).  J  Thank you to the following parents for volunteering their time and helping our class; Cynthia (Alex’s Mom), Kristen (Chance’s Mom), Petra (Elizabeth’s Mom), and Amber (Carson’s Mom).  Please visit my blog to see pictures from our field trip to Village Farms.

Thank you to all the Grandparents who came last Wednesday.  We had 25 Grandparents. I hope they all enjoyed themselves in the classroom.

St. Patrick’s Day Project:  Each student will need an empty shoebox.  If you are able to bring in more than one, that would be great.  Sometimes when you ask stores (Famous Footwear, Payless, etc.) they will give you the empty ones.  Please do NOT bring them in until Tuesday, March 12th.  I do not have room for 27 shoeboxes.

REPORT CARD DAY: Friday, March 15th
·        Please mark your calendars. J
·        ALL students must be picked up by 11:30.
·        I know it is going to be busy, so we will be out front by 11:15.
·        There is NO after school or lunch.
·        Please make sure you let me know when you pick up your child.  It is a safety procedure.

LPA RUN WALK RIDE for Education – I hope to see you all there on March 16th.

The children were grateful and excited about all the Valentine’s Day cards and goodies.  It was so cute when some of the children went over and thanked each person.

We celebrated Mardi Gras in our classroom on Tuesday.  The students listened to Jazz music and went on a masquerade parade.  The students enjoyed eating a “King Cake,” which according to tradition had a plastic baby hidden inside.  Whoever gets the piece with the baby,  it is supposed to mean that they are to make the next King Cake and/or it just means good luck for the lucky person.  Carson had the plastic baby inside his piece of King Cake.  Please visit my blog to see pictures of our celebration.

Miss Janet brought in Yogurt covered pretzels and Yogurt covered star cookies for “Yy” week.

Last Friday, the students learned about Michelangelo.  He was born in Italy in 1475 and died in 1564.  Michelangelo was a painter, sculptor, poet, and architect.  It took him 4 years to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.  The class imitated Michelangelo’s painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.  The students had to lie on their backs and drew a picture on a piece of paper taped underneath the table.  The students thought it was going to be easy to draw while lying on their backs. They soon found out that it was difficult and tiring.  One student said, “My back is hurting.”  Another said, “This is hard.”

The students also painted a southwestern ornament for Rodeo.  They will be taking them home this week.  They are really cute.  Please hang it in your home or in your  child’s room.

FIELD TRIP – Tuesday, February 19th
·         All students need to be on time.
·         All students MUST have a bag lunch with a drink.  Everything will be thrown out at the park.
·         All students need to wear jeans (or uniform pants), uniform shirt, tennis shoes and a sweatshirt that they may tie around their waist.

Wednesday, February 20th – please make sure your child comes to school with a sweatshirt/jacket.  We will be doing Rodeo events outside for Grandparents Day, if weather permits.

Homework for Week of February 11th Happy Birthday Arizona! Thursday, February 14th is Arizona’s 101st birthday. In honor of Arizona our homework this week is for your student to research 3 facts about Arizona and write them down on the following pages. You may use books, the Internet, encyclopedias or even take a trip to library to do some real research. Please make sure that your student writes these facts themselves because they will be presenting the facts to the class on Friday. There is also a reading log attached to be turned in Friday.

Last Friday the students celebrated Chinese New Year!  Chinese New Year, celebrating the year of the snake, began officially Sunday, February 10th.  The class went on a dragon parade around the school and through the office.  The students received a lucky red envelope and enjoyed fortune cookies.

Last week, the students learned about Dinosaurs. The students are learning about carnivores, herbivores, omnivores, habits, predators, and defense mechanisms. Also, the students have made lanterns and snakes for Chinese New Year’s. Please make sure your child has a change of uniform clothes in a bag in their backpack at all times. If they are out of dress code, it is easier for them to change into their extra clothes rather than going up to the office and not being able to participate in Friday dress.
