The children were grateful and excited about all the Valentine’s Day cards and goodies.  It was so cute when some of the children went over and thanked each person.

We celebrated Mardi Gras in our classroom on Tuesday.  The students listened to Jazz music and went on a masquerade parade.  The students enjoyed eating a “King Cake,” which according to tradition had a plastic baby hidden inside.  Whoever gets the piece with the baby,  it is supposed to mean that they are to make the next King Cake and/or it just means good luck for the lucky person.  Carson had the plastic baby inside his piece of King Cake.  Please visit my blog to see pictures of our celebration.

Miss Janet brought in Yogurt covered pretzels and Yogurt covered star cookies for “Yy” week.

Last Friday, the students learned about Michelangelo.  He was born in Italy in 1475 and died in 1564.  Michelangelo was a painter, sculptor, poet, and architect.  It took him 4 years to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.  The class imitated Michelangelo’s painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.  The students had to lie on their backs and drew a picture on a piece of paper taped underneath the table.  The students thought it was going to be easy to draw while lying on their backs. They soon found out that it was difficult and tiring.  One student said, “My back is hurting.”  Another said, “This is hard.”

The students also painted a southwestern ornament for Rodeo.  They will be taking them home this week.  They are really cute.  Please hang it in your home or in your  child’s room.
