Newsletter 11-29
I hope everyone had a nice relaxing, long Thanksgiving weekend surrounded by family and friends. Thank you to all the families who brought in stuffing. The students really enjoyed eating together with their “Kindergarten Family.”
It is extremely important that your child is at school every day. Your student will miss out important, fun activities. We are doing many projects that take more than one day to complete. If your child is absent, they may not be able to make up the activity.
Kindergarten Tradition: Gingerbread Houses
Each student needs to bring in $1 for the supplies. This will be less expensive for you because I can purchase exactly what we need and how much. We will be making them Friday, December 10th. Parents will need to pick the Gingerbread Houses up on Monday, December 13th. The icing will harden, and it is recommended that it not be eaten. Your child’s Gingerbread House is a great keepsake that will last for many years. To save the gingerbread house, simply wrap it lightly in tissue paper, and then place it in a bag. The children will love to see their creation displayed year after year. If your child normally goes to afterschool, please come by and pick up your child’s Gingerbread House before school. I am in my room at 7:30. I would hate to have anything happen to the Gingerbread Houses in afterschool. Please make sure siblings do not take candy off these special houses.
*** Our class needs volunteers to help with this activity. I only need 6 volunteers. Please come and let me know as soon as possible.
Holiday program: Our class will be singing “Frosty the Snowman.” Attached is a copy of the lyrics. Please practice with your child.

Newsletter 8-23-10
Dear Parents,
Mrs. Marshall and I enjoyed the first full week of school. The students are great! Our class is still working on classroom behavior, rules and expectations. Please help us with reviewing the behavior matrix with your child.
The students made doorknob hangers. I can already tell we have a bunch of creative students in the class. Please make sure that you take everything out of your child’s folder and look through it every night. In the next couple of weeks we will be putting stickers in folders for those students who take it out in the morning and it is empty (unless there is a note from a parent). Please read the school link for more information.
HOMEWORK: The first homework assignment will be going out this week. Please do not do the homework for your child, but your student will most likely need assistance.
ENTERTAINMENT BOOK FUNDRAISER:• This is a great fundraiser for the school, but we need your help.
• We need your help to return the books if you are not purchasing them. The school is accountable for all lost books.
• Please return books or money to our classroom.
Important dates:
• August 30, 2010 – Picture day
All students must be in uniform
• September 1, 2010 - $1 dress down day

Dear parents,
The first two days of school went well. Please remember to send your child with a water bottle with water in it every day. The students may leave their water bottles at school all week.
Please review our school wide behavior matrix with your child. We will be concentrating on all students knowing the rules and expectations.
Attached is a copy of our class “Yellow Slip.” This is a good way for me to communicate with you about your child if there are any discipline problems. If your child ever receives a Yellow Slip, please go over the information with your child, sign and return it the next school day.
Please make sure your child brings their folder (with Ms. O’Hare on the bottom) every day. This is a very important way to communicate and teach your child responsibility.
Our class will be learning to write in D’nealian. It makes the transition from printing to cursive much easier. Attached is the way your child will write each letter.
Please have your child fill out the all about me info train sheet. Please have your child color and decorate the poster. Please make sure not to color over their writing. The completed sheet is due Friday morning, August 20th.
This week we will be studying:
• Shapes
• Colors
• Writing their name the kindergarten way.
Thank you for your time and support,

Keep up the hard work with homework and studying spelling words. Our class had 20 students who earned 100% on their spelling test. Way to go!! J
Also, our class studied the letter Cc. The students tried Cat Cookies, Cream Puffs, Crunch & Munch and Candy Corn Kisses. We also had a whole coconut. First we made holes in it with hammer and nail in order to drain the liquid, and then broke it in half. I am proud to say that every student tried the coconut, including coconut milk. The class counted to three and tried it at the same time. By everyone’s reaction, including my own, the coconut milk was not our favorite. I brought in a large piece of Coprolite. Coprolite is petrified Dinosaur Dung. The students were grossed out but very curious about it. J Kindergarten is all about experiencing new things.
The students cloud watched for three consecutive days. Last Friday, our class went outside to observe the clouds, and then we came inside to recreate what they had seen in the sky. The students’ cloud paintings are hanging up in the classroom. In addition, the students’ really cute caterpillars on leafs are displayed in are class.
